Urban Leadership Awards 2011
| The Urban Leadership Awards (ULA) program is an annual initiative of the Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) designed to recognize those who have made significant contributions to improving the quality of life in Canada’s cities and urban regions. These characteristics combined with the ability to engage others, are what distinguish ULA recipients from the mainstream. The awards program is also a fundraiser for the Institute in support of our internship program, dedicated to providing undergraduate and graduate scholars with practical work experience. This year the awards will take place on June 9th, 2011, at the Liberty Grand (Exhibition Place). | ||

Urban Economics Experts Speaker Series @ Rotman
Transport Futures - Mobility Pricing Conference
| Transporting people and goods presents society with several challenges: congestion, urban sprawl, smog, climate change, safety and health impacts -- to name a few. International research and experience have demonstrated that transport-based user fees can be set by government in order to modify driver behaviour, raise earmarked revenue for multi-modal infrastructure and assist in making bureaucracies more transparent and accountable to the public. Don’t miss this opportunity to examine the role user fees play in Ontario and how mobility pricing – parking fees, fuel taxes, transit fares and road pricing -- can drive transport efficiency, sustainability and social justice. We'll be assisted by these North American experts: Seating is limited. Please register today. Canadian Urban Institute members receive a 15% discount on our incredible rates. Simply add Coupon Code (CC) CURB2 when completing your contact information. Visit http://www.transportfutures.ca/mobility for full program details!! |

New Models for Engagement - Connecting People, Employers and Jobs
| Toronto is at the centre of one of the fastest growing economic regions in North America. It is an attractive city for new immigrants, as well as to youth from rural areas in search of better employment opportunities. However, Toronto's job market is in transition, changing from a centre for manufacturing to a region providing quality, innovative services in the financial, hospitality, education, health and administrative areas. Toronto is also one of the centres for the information and culture industries. As the market changes, how can employers find the people they need and who exactly is it that they are looking for? What are the key industries that will be growing in the future and what skills will those industries require? | ||
