Event Date: November 20, 2009
Description: This is a recording from the CUI event on the morning of the November 20, 2009. Toronto developed a reputation as the “city that works” in large measure because of efficient transit and high quality transit-oriented development. As the GTA grows in size and density, how do we continue to build the core and the region to marry urban form and transit in an effective, efficient and beautiful way? “Designing Transit Cities” on Friday, November 20 is the CUI’s headline event in a multi-session series organized by the Canadian Urban Institute, the City of Toronto, TTC, Metrolinx the Toronto Society of Architects and the Cities Centre at the University of Toronto. The intent is to give the public and urban practitioners an opportunity to better understand how we can grow the City around Transit.

Event Date: April 15, 2010
Description: Although massive investments have been earmarked for Transit City, with possible delayed implementation, is there the political and practical will to start the process of city-building to support future transit? Why doesn't Toronto have more really beautiful public spaces? What does the recent spike in pedestrian fatalities in the Toronto area have in common with climate change? Who is responsible for the city's public realm? This is a spirited debate with an expert panel examines the kind of actions that will fundamentally shape the look, feel and function of Toronto and its neighbours for decades to come.
