Energy Mapping

The image above shows how much energy - both electricity and natural gas - was consumed by buildings in the City of Hamilton in 2008.  The areas is red show higher amounts of energy intensity (energy per unit area).

The CUI's energy mapping process can be used by municipalities and utilites to visualize where and how much energy is being consumed by a community.  By matching energy data from utilities with built form data from the City, stakeholders can interpret how land-use decisions affect the way energy is consumed in a community.

The energy mapping process has been applied to the City of Calgary Alberta, and also the Cities of Guelph, Hamilton, Barrie, and London in Ontario.
