We are a non-profit applied research organization dedicated to achieving healthy urban development.

The Canadian Urban Institute has spent the last three decades working to cultivate solutions for the built environment that balance human, ecological and economic impacts, both in Canada and internationally.

We accomplish this by helping the public and private sectors: build capacity for informed, creative decisions; shape public policy; and implement the best community practices.

The majority of our work is focused in the urban policy areas of: good density, community resilience and sustainability, smart planning for smart cities, housing affordability, communities for all ages and international collaboration.

Through our work, we generate insights and recommendations to inspire action in each of these urban policy areas..
