CUI Launches Cultural Indicators Project

The Canadian Urban Institute is pleased to announce that our work is now underway to develop a set of indicators and performance measures that can be used by Ontario municipalities to measure and evaluate the outcomes of Municipal Cultural Planning (MCP) in their communities.
We are excited about the potential of this work to spark further discussions on the role of culture in creating vibrant sustainable communities, as well as the potential to create a stronger evidence base to inform planning and decision making.
We will be looking at measures that define a community’s cultural vitality, measures of the effectiveness of the MCP process, as well as measures that demonstrate culture’s intrinsic links to wealth creation, place making, equity and sustainability.
The results will be boiled down in a ‘how to’ handbook that will be available to Ontario municipalities. Regional workshops will be held to present and discuss the findings in this handbook.
Funding provided by the Government of Ontario, as well as contributions from the Ontario Arts Council, City of Toronto, City of Hamilton, City of Kingston, City of Ottawa, City of Barrie, City of Mississauga, Town of Markham and City of Kitchener.
