Urban Leadership Day 2015

On December 4 CUI hosted Urban Leadership Day at Artscape's newest venue the Sandbox. The morning kicked-off with our Annual Meeting with Toronto's Chief Planner with NRU Publishing and was followed by CUI's presentation of the 2015 Urban Leadership Awards program. New CUI Directors bring fresh perspectives on city building, policy and stakeholder engagement.

CUI is excited to announce the appointment of three new board members:

  • John Campbell, President & CEO, Waterfront Toronto
  • Bruce Peever Senior Manager, KPMG Hamilton
  • Megan Wallingford Analyst, Sustainalytics

Our new Chair is Andréa Callà, a Senior Executive with Tridel, with Kathleen Llewellyn-Thomas, P.Eng. as Vice-Chair. CUI thanks Marni Cappe, who served as Chair for the 2014-2015 term. Marni will continue as a Director. We also thank departing Directors Tanzeel Merchant and Winnie Shi.

Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow, in partnership with the Clean Air Partnership and the Canadian Urban Institute hosted the second Energy Community of Practice (ECOP) Workshop. The workshop is designed educate participants about community energy planning and develop a community energy planning curriculum for Ontario.

CUI Recieves 2015 Toronto Foundation Vital Ideas Grant

The Toronto Foundation has officially announced the 2015 Vital Ideas grant recipients. This year 18 high-impact initiatives received funding including the Canadian Urban Institute. CUI’s grant will help launch Project YU – engaging young urbanists as city building thought leaders.
